במצב של "אכתי עבדי דאחשורוש אנן" צריכים את הסיוע של "חסד לאומים". א' מ"לבושים הטבעיים" לזה הוא לדאוג שיהי' לגוי יחס של כבוד ליהודי, ולגרום לקידוש ה' גם בעיניו ע"י שנזהרים מאיסור אונאה וכיו"ב. וישנם הטועים וטוענים שכדי לא לעורר קנאה ושנאה בין האומות אין להתבלט ברחוב כא' ששומר תומ"צ. וע"ז באה ההוראה מהמגילה שההיפך הוא הנכון – "ויקר אלו תפילין", וכמ"ש בגמ' "וכ"ה אומר [בשישי פ' כי תבוא] וראו כל עמי הארץ כי שם ה' נק' עליך – ויראו ממך .. אלו תפילין שבראש", היינו, דוקא ע"י שהגוי רואה עליו ש"שם ה' נק' עליך", זה מביא ל"ויראו ממך" באופן שמלכתחילה אינו הולך ללחום אתו, עד ש"יקר" – הגוי מכבד אותו. ויה"ר שיהי' "תפול עליהם אימתה ופחד" גם על ה"א-ל זר אשר בקרבך" – היצה"ר.

In a situation where “We are still servants of Achashverosh,” we still require the assistance of “the kindness of nations,” and among the natural means of attaining it is by ensuring that a non-Jew has a respectful attitude towards Jews and causing a Kiddush Hashem, by being careful to avoid the probation of ona’ah (exploitation) etc. There are some who mistakenly claim that, in order not to provoke the jealousy or hatred of the nations, a Jew must not stand out in the street as someone who keeps Torah and mitzvos. But the Megillah teaches that the opposite is true – “‘And honor’ – this refers to tefillin,” and as the Gemara says, “And the similarly the verse states [in shishi of parashas Ki Savo], ‘And all the peoples of the earth will see that the name of Hashem is called upon you, and they will fear you’ – this refers to the head tefillin.” Meaning, it is specifically when the non-Jew sees that “the name of Hashem is called upon you” that “he will fear you,” in such a way that from the outset he will not seek to fight with you, and in fact will comes to “honor” and respect you. And may it be Hashem’s will that “fear and dread fall upon them,” including upon the “foreign god that is within you” – the yetzer hara.
